As you know, Charming is
sloooooooowly progressing on the renovation in our kitchen. The new part was once an unused, closed-in,
hot-in-the-summer and freezing-in-the winter back porch. This area was basically useless to us, except
to store the furniture that wouldn’t fit in our tiny kitchen. So I had a corner cabinet, my kitchen table
and chairs, an antique buffet/sideboard, and another old cabinet that housed
miscellaneous trays and appliances that I did not use on a regular basis.
In the kitchen, as it was when we
moved in, there was a bank of cabinets on the front side of the house along
with the sink and stove. The
refrigerator was situated on another wall, along with a small stand that held
my bread machine. There was also an odd
cabinet on each of the remaining walls.
In the middle of the room was a very small kitchen table that my brother
had made for us. Even though this table
is very small, it still took up much of the kitchen’s open space. Everything was a jumbled mess and it was
difficult to have more than one person in the kitchen at a time. Also, because Max the Wonder Dog likes to sprawl
on the floor within one foot of wherever I am and takes up a huge amount of
floor space, it was not an optimal cooking situation.
However, progress is being made
and Charming is nearing completion of the new part of the kitchen (which was
the back porch). This weekend he was
working on making “custom” cabinets.
This will extend the bank of cabinets to where I should be able to store
all of my “equipment”. (Charming and I
prefer to call all of our stuff “equipment”.
Referring to them as equipment magically turns them into necessities for
whatever project we happen to be working on.
So I have “knitting equipment,” “spinning equipment,” “quilting equipment,”
etc. which are all necessary for my daily happiness.)
Below are pictures of how the new
part is shaping up. The chair is one of
a set of four that I wrote about in an earlier post which I re-bottomed to fit
in with the planned décor of the room. The
black and tan fabric will be made into curtains. The rug is in progress and should be finished
by the time the entire kitchen is completed.
I also have plans for a quilted wall hanging and table runner, but I’ll
have to put a little more thought into that before I can finalize actual plans
for those. I will continue to post
updates on these projects as the kitchen renovation progresses.
In addition, I have added another recipe under the “Gluten-Free
Recipes” tab. It’s called “Gluten-Free
Baked Chicken with Taco Chip Crust.”
Opposite end of the new kitchen. Cabinets will be
installed on the wall on the right with the small window.
